Over the Gobi to Ulaan Baatar – 3378 km

Night train across the Gobi desert. Wild camels walking outside in small herds. Of course, just when I had lost the camera behind the bedding… Hundreds and thousands of wind turbines sprawling kilometers along the tracks whirr with a promise of a possibly cleaner future.

Coming up on the Mongolian highland we were welcomed with a blanket of beautiful snow.

The Gobi is spreading with more than 3000 km2 per year, which is staggering. There are many tree planting initiatives, but nothing on that scale. It is impressive to get a glimpse of the vastness from nearby.
This is a worthy problem!

At the end of the train journey we came to the pseudo-soviet town of Ulaan Baatar, with the great hostel Zaya.
